FAQs

What age should my child start Suzuki violin?
Many children begin as young as age 3 or 4 after taking Music Together. The most important factor is a child’s curiosity and a parent’s willingness to support the journey. If you're not sure the time is right, try Ready Set Violin to test out the waters.
Do I need to have a musical background?
Not at all! Many Suzuki parents are complete beginners. We’ll guide you through every step of the process, and you’ll learn right alongside your child.
Do we need our own violin?
We’ll help you get fitted for a properly sized instrument when you’re ready. No need to buy one before your first lesson, we'll get all the foundations set up first.
How much practice is expected at home?
In the beginning, just a few minutes a day is enough to build a strong habit. We’ll give you age-appropriate strategies to keep practice calm, consistent, and even fun! To make your learning effortless, you will also be expected to play the practice recording daily during your normal activities.
Can my child take lessons without me?
In the Suzuki approach, the parent plays a key role—especially at the start. As students grow, they gain independence, but early on, your presence is essential for success.
What if my child is shy, wiggly, or easily distracted?
Totally normal! Our teachers are trained to meet kids where they are. We use movement, play, and creative strategies to keep lessons engaging and supportive.
Can I choose just private or just group lessons?
Our program is built on the balance of both. Private lessons focus on technique and repertoire, while group classes develop musicality, ear training, theory, and creativity. Without one or the other, your child won’t receive a full musical educaiton. Both are essential to grow as a confident, well-rounded musician.
I already have a private teacher. Can I just join group lessons?
We're thrilled you're established in a private studio. If your teacher is a certified Suzuki instructor guiding you through the technical points of the repertoire, you're welcome to join our group classes. It’s a great way to strengthen your repertoire as well as learn theory, ear training, and improvisation. Just reach out—we’ll guide you how to enroll in group lessons only.
